Public Libraries NSW - Country Impact Conference 2010

One of the best things about working in the library industry is attending library conferences! I was lucky enough to attend the PLNSW - Country Impact Conference in Albury (NSW, Australia) during July. As part of my attendance I sponsored one of the keynote speakers - Dale Cousens from Puke Ariki, New Plymouth, New Zealand. Dale manages a team of staff that includes library, teachers, curators and designers. Dale spoke of the intense learning curve and reward involved in working with such a diverse team. It was an excellent presentation and clearly demonstrated the benefit of librarians working closely with other professions. The presentation also talked about working in a bi-culture community, especially working closely with and understanding the Maori community. I commend Dale on her presentation and highly recommend a visit to Puke Ariki and to New Plymouth.

I was also one of the Marketing Award sponsors at the conference and here I am presenting an award to Jim Maguire (Library Manager, Port Macquarie) for his 'Books in Flight' project:

It was great to catch-up and network with so many dedicated and committed librarians and Councillors and to see just how much work is being done to develop and enhance public libraries. Well done everyone!

Special mention and commendation must go to Lynne Makin, Robert Knight and their teams for putting on such a great conference. Despite the cold and often wet weather, Albury is a beautiful and friendly place to be.

Special thanks also to all those who came and spoke with me during the conference and who I've had the pleasure of doing consultancy work for - I appreciate your ongoing support.

Cheers,

Roger
